My dad used to collect clocks. We had a bunch hanging in every room; the kind that chimed. And every hour they’d all go crazy ringing. Drove my mom nuts. One day she just shut him down — stopped every clock in the house with a pendulum. Broke my dad’s heart.  But mom wore the pant in the family, so that was that.

Anyway, that’s just my little clock story. I do love old clocks. There’s a certain kind of charm to them. Although, my mom was kinda right about the incessant chiming. It’s not as if they held their little ringers through the night.

Luckily, the DIY clock I found for you does not chime. This clock is the work of Diana from Decorate Me Diana blog. [ — Oct 2015 Update: Unfortunately it looks like the link to her site is no longer active  :-(  — ]  It’s one of those great big giant wall clocks and a Pottery Barn knock off. The best part, though, is that she made it for all of $10. Yep, you heard me right. Now, she did have the wood and stain on hand. But if you’ve been doing-it-youself for a while there’s a good chance you’ve got some of that hanging around too. I particularly like the technique she used to give the wood that aged antique look. I learn something new everyday!

Diane used faux clock hands, but if you want a real working clock, I found a large clock kit with 15″ clock hands here

So there you have it. Learn how you can make your own giant wall clock with an amazing antique finish.

Cheers!
